Loma Linda University Children's Hospital

R2-D2 visited one of his biggest fans, little Dominic Cumo, in the hospital, along with many other pediatric patients. We think the staff may have had even more fun than the kids! R2 first met Dominic at an event a few months ago at Totally Kids Specialty Health Care in Loma Linda. Dominic's service dog, Kipper, is used to visitors, and didn't bark at R2!

Course of the Force Make-A-Wish Relay

R2-D2 has been appearing this week at Course of the Force, an Olympic torch-style relay run with lightsabers, where participants run from Santa Monica to San Diego while benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Each quarter mile, participants hand off the official lightsaber to the next runner as they begin their leg of the journey. The event stops in Huntington Beach, Oceanside, Pacific Beach, and ends at the annual San Diego Comic Con International. (Photos courtesy Octagon)

Check out R2 in this Course of the Force video -- at the beginning, then again briefly at 3:58 and then a long interview with him 7:03-8:25 (intro starts at 5:30).

In this Day 2 recap, R2 first appears at 1:50, and they briefly talk to him at 4:24

Pacific Symphony 4th of July Concert

R2-D2 made a surprise appearance onstage with the Pacific Symphony at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, to deliver the results of audience voting for the encore. Guests texted in their votes for the symphony to play either the theme from ET or from Star Wars. No surprise, Star Wars won by a landslide, which made R2 very happy! The evening featured salutes to John Williams and the Eagles, ending with patriotic songs and fireworks.
