Canyon Hills Library

Thanks to the friendly staff at the Canyon Hills Library for inviting us back. R2-D2 and BB-8 made some new friends in Anaheim Hills as Mike shared how he built his robotic replicas. Kids, including some members of a local elementary school robotics team, sat quietly and asked thoughtful questions. Everyone enjoyed getting photos taken with the droids at the end.

R2 Builders panel, San Diego ComicCon

Mike joined with a fun group of R2 builders to share how to build your own R2-D2, for a huge audience at San Diego ComicCon. The room was full and unfortunately people were turned away. Two BB-8s made appearances, as well as Chopper and a surprise visit by C3PO. Thanks to Thomas, Tony, Paul, Anastasia and everyone else for helping with droid logistics, always a challenge at this huge con.

During introductions, Mike said he also built a BB-8, which he would probably show later in the presentation. Others encouraged him to "show it NOW!" Watch the video below to see what happened next. We love William Miyamoto!

Mouse Droid builders panel, San Diego ComicCon

This group of droid builders gave their first presentation on how to build a Mouse Droid, at San Diego ComicCon. Kevin Holmes' Mousezilla, weighing 60 pounds and pulling 300+ pounds, was the star of the show. Great job, guys!

About 200 people showed up at the Anaheim Central Library to hear Mike talk about how he built his WALL•E and BB-8 replicas. The presentation was followed by Q&A from the audience, and then there was a long line for photos with the robots.

Pacific Symphony

We were honored to once again be a part of two John Williams tribute concerts by the Pacific Symphony at the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa, conducted by the talented Richard Kaufman. As a special guest music librarian, R2 delivered the Star Wars score to the conductor on stage.

UNICEF Kid Power

It was an honor to be a part of this event at LA Live for UNICEF Kid Power, sponsored by Target and Star Wars: Force for Change. Kids who wear their Kid Power fitness bands unlock food packets for malnourished children around the world. What a great cause! And it's always fun working with Chewbacca. 😊

Loma Linda hospital visit

R2-D2 always enjoys visiting his little buddy Dominic at Loma Linda University Children's Hospital. Artoo bravely extends his utility arm for a finger prick blood test (while screaming!), in solidarity with his young friend. Always brings laughs to an uncomfortable procedure. The night staff thoroughly enjoyed a rare special guest appearance during their shift, as R2 made rounds around several departments to visit many other patients. Dominic's service dog, Kipper, smiled for the camera, as usual. Feel better soon, Dominic!

Favorite quote from a post-op patient who was recovering from facial surgery: "I would smile, but I'm not supposed to."

WonderCon Anaheim

We showed R2-D2, BB-8 and the new mouse droid at this year's con. Mike spoke on the droid builders panel Friday night. We enjoyed talking with all the visitors to the booth. Norm and Joey from filmed an interview with Mike and Michael McMaster about their mouse droids. Friday the two of them drove around in a mouse droid demolition derby, and Saturday they did a drag race. Always fun to play with new toys!
