Our R2-D2 filmed this new Verizon commercial, with Michael as puppeteer, Jan 4, 2011. Too bad a starfighter eats up a million dollars in gas money, or maybe he would have picked Artoo! LOL Michael built the radar dish especially for this shoot with Lucasfilm.

Victor Franco came along and proved to be a valuable assist. These are his pics too!

Michael appeared with R2-D2 on a panel discussing "How to Build Your Own R2-D2" at this small fantasy & sci fi convention at the LAX Marriott. He found a young fan who enjoyed driving R2, and also enjoyed meeting one of his favorite sci fi authors, Larry Niven.

Riverside Robotics Society

R2-D2 &WALL-E appeared for the 2nd year at Riverside Robotics Society's Robot Expo at the Woodcrest Community Library. One of the event's goals is to inspire children to pursue careers in math, science, or engineering. Exhibits included robot soccer, Terminator robots, a Lost in Space Robot, a singing robot Elvis and many others. Mike met fellow robot builder, and the voice of the Tonight Show, Wally Wingert. Alexander's 3rd Birthday Party, Yorba Linda

R2-D2 entertained the kids at this backyard birthday party in Yorba Linda. The kids (& adults) took turns posing for photos & giving R2-D2 high fives. Then they played games of hide & seek as R2-D2 followed them around. The kids enjoyed the sense of power they felt giving R2-D2 orders in a fun game of "Simon Says." They said things like, "Simon says turn your head around. Simon says go over there. Simon says high five."

We hosted the 8th annual gathering of Southern California R2 Builders at our home. There were about 35 builders plus their guests, about 13 droids on display, plus various parts and props (including a C3PO and a battle droid). A couple of the builders even spontaneously created an R2-D2 out of scrap items found on our side yard. The wacky entertainment this year was a live chicken race, where builders watching the event from the online webcast were able to join the fun and try to guess which chicken would be the first to cross the finish line.

Wedding of Andrew & Stacy Weitz, Santa Monica

R2-D2 was asked to make a surprise appearance in the wedding of Andrew Weitz and his bride Stacy at Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica, on a deck overlooking the sand. R2 came wearing a bow tie, and during the rehearsal the florist immediately outfitted R2 with a boutonniere, as well as a yarmulke hat. It was a beautiful setting. Only the bridal party knew about the big surprise. R2 was the first one to roll down the aisle, accompanied by a soft, melodic Star Wars tune. The audience was overwhelmed with surprise, laughed and took photos. He then rolled back down the aisle, and the rest of the wedding followed. We learned that Andrew is a big Star Wars fan who was called "Android" as a child. He and his brother Richard had so much fun taking photos with R2 after the ceremony. They are both talent agents at William Morris Endeavor Entertainment in Beverly Hills, so having a surprise "celebrity" appearance at their wedding was fitting. Richard's children enjoyed the chance to operate R2's remote control. It was an honor to share in their beautiful day.

Marvelous Mechanized Magic Kingdom, Disneyland Hotel

R2-D2 appeared on stage with C3PO at this event featuring host Neil Patrick Harris. The event featured the history of Disney's contributions to storytelling through mechanical means. Through interviews with those closest to the historical development & implementation of mechanical technologies, culminating in Audio-Animatronics, the event gave attendees a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse at this unique area of theme park entertainment. Various props were displayed throughout the lobby areas, where R2 also entertained the crowd.

In addition, Mike displayed his latest project, the head and hand he's built for a life-size, fully functional, remote-control Wall-E robot from the animated film. Upon pressing a "demo" button, the eyebrows moved and each side of the head moved up and down. This was a great opportunity to test out the mechanics and electronics as there were over 300 guests in attendance, many who pressed the button more than once. It passed the test!

Star Wars Celebration V convention, Orlando, FL

R2-D2 travelled cross country by trailer to attend the Star Wars Celebration V convention in Orlando, Florida. He was part of an R2 Builder's exhibit which featured about 75 fan-built droids. R2 participated in the droid races & droid parade, which were a big hit with the crowds. Mike spoke on a droid builder's panel. His droid was displayed as R5-DD from the fan film, Pink Five.

4th of July Party, Montana Ranch

R2-D2 entertained guests at a 4th of July party on a Montana Ranch, hosted by former San Francisco 49ers owner Eddie Dibartolo. Entertainers included Boys II Men & Paul Anka. We dressed the kids as a Jawa & Padme (in battle cloak) to join the fun with local costumers. The Star Wars decor was awesome, with an elaborate tunnel entry into the party tent that looked like an AT-AT. Guests dined on steak, salmon, lobster tail & shrimp. A private fireworks show was followed by a 3rd dance band, then breakfast & a Millienium Falcon cake was served at midnight. The event culminated a 4-day carnival on a private, gated ranch for 500 guests, including many professional athletes.

Friend's Birthday Party, Huntington Beach

R2 made a surprise appearance at our friend's niece's 8th birthday party. Our daughter fielded questions for R2. We loved the party crafts made by the kids--felt R2-D2s. You can tell by this & her cake that R2 is her favorite Star Wars character. A budding cinematographer, after the party the birthday girl gave us a private screening of her first film--a remake of the original Star Wars trilogy. What a treat! Michael also gave the birthday girl's cousin a spin at the controls afterwards. What an honor to share the magic of Star Wars with these amazing kids.

Pacific Symphony John Williams Concert, OC Performing Arts Center

Our family attended the final concert with Richard Kaufman & the Pacific Symphony orchestra. What a wonderful show! Photos from the films were projected onscreen as they played classic music from films such as Superman, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Harry Potter, Jaws, Memoirs of a Geisha (featuring dancers onstage), and Star Wars. In addition to delivering the Star Wars score to Master Kaufman during the first act, R2-D2 returned to the stage at the end of the show to deliver the conductor's announcements for the 2010-2011 pops concert season. After the show, R2-D2 entertained VIPs at a private reception. Our daughter, who plays flute in school, was thrilled to meet & talk shop with the symphony's flute player.

Pacific Symphony John Williams Concert, OC Performing Arts Center

The Pacific Symphony invited R2-D2 back for another performance on stage with Pops Conductor Richard Kaufman, who directed 3 nights of concerts of John Williams music. R2-D2 saves the day by delivering the missing Star Wars score! I was contacted August 2009 to save the dates. I worked again with Eileen Jeanette (VP of Orchestra Operations) and Brandon Rueda (Artistic Services Manager) who took care of me. They are wonderful to work with!
Richard Kaufman was as nice as a person can be.

We hosted the 7th annual gathering of Southern California area R2 Builders, with more than 20 droids & more than 40 builders. We had a bounce house for the young at heart, building demos, food & R2 themed desserts. Even a special guest: C3PO (Ian Martin) came for photo ops. John Bush received the Builder Award of Excellence. The webcast attracted people from around the world for this 12-hour event.

Jimmy Kimmel Live Show shoot, Hollywood

R2-D2 filmed a skit for the studio audience of the Jimmy Kimmel Live show in Hollywood. The video will instruct audience members to turn off cell phones prior to taping. The Prop Master, David, was the best. He looked after us and introduced us to the important people on set, including Jimmy Kimmel.

The call time was 11 am, but shooting didn't actually start till almost 2 pm. It gave us time to walk around Hollywood Blvd to see all the tourists and freaky locals. We left R2 in the studio, where some tours were going through. It gave them a good photo opportunity with R2. I toyed with the idea of taking R2 for a walk down the Blvd, but it was so close to rush hour, I decided to leave instead. We had taken R2 out there once before already. It was back in 2005 when the last Star Wars film was released and we visited the fans in line at Mann's Chinese Theater.

Jimmy Kimmel was just as cool and laid back as he is on TV. He posed for a mock interview pic with R2 and me (see pic below) at the end of the shoot.

Wedding Ring Bearer, LA

R2 was in his first wedding! He participated in a wedding as Ring Bearer. He also delivered the toasting glasses to the bride & groom at the reception, using a specially designed tray. Kevin had approached me at a mutual friend's party asking if I would have R2 be a part of his wedding. Of course, my first reaction was "Are you joking? You want R2 to be a ring bearer?" Kevin and his bride to be explained that R2 was their favorite character.

The wedding was great fun with good people, good food, and good dancing! Jay showed up with his DeLorean Back to the Future car to sweep up the Bride and Groom, signaling the end of the reception. The festivities continued at the hotel. A really fun wedding!

ICAN Bowling Fundraiser

Arizona R2 Builder's gathering

R2 made a road trip to Phoenix, AZ for a gathering of local R2 builders. It was hot! Victor, my son and I came in on Friday night. The AZ guys organized a dinner for us at Famous Dave's BBQ. My son had been quietly starving in the back seat of the van. As we got about 15 minutes to the restaurant, he melted down. Tiny rescued him by helping order him a meal before we arrived. At the end of the meal, Tiny picked up the tab!!! What a cool dude! Bryan hosted the meet, which had much in the way of food, fun and good people. Thanks guys!

Treehouse Social Club Birthday, Beverly Hills

R2 entertained the kids at Zak's birthday party at the Treehouse Social Club in Beverly Hills. Zak turned 5 and could not get enough of R2. Usually kids hang around R2 for about 15 minutes, then pay him no mind for the rest of the day. Not Zak! He lead R2 all around the venue, talking and showing R2 things. It was non stop with those two!

Zak's parents were very nice, as well as the staff at the Treehouse. An all-around fun time! I forgot to take some pics of R2, but here's 3PO and Zak.

Mercy's 6th Birthday Party at Angel's Playground

Mercy is a little girl who has spent a lot of time in hospitals since a car accident 4 years ago. She first met the 501st Legion during a hospital visit, where Darth Vader encouraged her to continue wearing a breathing mask that she needed to help her lungs work properly. Since then, her family has developed a relationship with the club, which sent several characters out, including Darth Vader and our R2-D2. The party was held at a wheelchair-accessible playground called Angels' Playground in Costa Mesa. Mercy, her family and friends thoroughly enjoyed all the attention they got from the Star Wars characters.

Cub Scout Pack 798 Meeting, Placentia

R2-D2 appeared at a Star Wars themed Pack meeting for Cub Scout Pack 798 at Golden Elementary School in Placentia. The boys & their families enjoyed hearing about how R2-D2 was built & the types of activities he goes to. We took off R2's head & back panel so they could look inside at his wires and inner workings, as well as see all the celebrity autographs on the back panel. Michael encouraged the young boys to be curious about how things work and learn to repair things that break, such as their toys. That type of curiousity & ingenuity leads to developing the engineering skills necessary to build cool things like R2-D2. It's rewarding to be able to potentially inspire young minds.

The 6th annual gathering of R2 Builders was held at our home again this year. About 50 people attended the 12-hour event, while more than 100 online viewers watched the live webcast via 3 cameras stationed around the house & yard. Viewers were able to type questions and comments that appeared on laptops and the big screen here. Attendees could reply by either speaking into the camera with audio, or by typing into one of the laptops. It was crazy! One of the viewers even created an online trivia contest complete with prizes, to add to the online interest. We moved droids out to the back patio this year, where we had about a dozen operational units driving around. Plus more parts indoors. It's amazing how much this event grows every year!

R2-LA wouldn't be complete without some type of shenanigans orchestrated by Mike McMaster. A bunch of the guys surprised Michael with T-shirts that said, "Who's Mike Senna?" and had a funny picture of his face. Builders were encouraged to bring their childhood Star Wars artwork. Two women made R2-D2 cakes during the day. A baby wore an R2-D2 onesie. There was even an R2-D2 pachinko machine and an automated C3PO. The event was kicked off with a pizza dinner Friday night, and wrapped up with brunch on Sunday. A very full & exhausting weekend with a fun group of people!

Legoland Star Wars Weekend 2008

R2-D2 and the ewoks made another appearance at Legoland's annual Star Wars Weekend. The ewoks always draw a big crowd at the front entrance as guests enter the park in the morning hours. We take them out one at a time and trade off so we don't leave a line of people disappointed that the ewoks had to leave for a water break. They overheat in about 20 minutes, even with their air cooling systems & ice packs. Other children of 501st members also showed up in costume as jawas, mini bounty hunters and troopers. Park guests are invited to wear costumes as well, for a costume contest. A Droid Hunt event is conducted throughout the park, where costumed characters wander during the weekend. This was our third time at this event since 2005.

John Williams Concert, Pasadena

We were honored to meet world-famous composer and conductor John Williams at a benefit concert for the Orchestras of Pasadena (Pops, Symphony & Youth). Outside the Ambassador Auditorium, R2-D2 welcomed guests to the pre-concert black tie cocktail reception. At the invitation-only event, John Williams conducted the symphony in playing his most famous film scores, including Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Schindler's List, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Memoirs of a Geisha, and the Olympic Fanfare & Theme. After enjoying the fabulous concert from our balcony seats, we were able to meet John Williams in his dressing room backstage. He autographed R2's inner panel, along with numerous other celebrity autographs. Described as Hollywood's greatest living composer, John Williams has composed music and served as music director for more than 100 films, and has received numerous Academy Awards, Emmy Awards and Grammys. He was Music Director of the Boston Pops Orchestra for 14 years.

Michael appeared on the April 28 episode of "Deal or No Deal" on NBC with Howie Mandell, for a special 2-hour Star Wars episode. He was the stormtrooper holding briefcase #15, which ended up containing $400. He was in the 2nd group selected. They filmed this back in March, and it was a 12-hour day on set. Carrie Fisher appeared, as well as LucasFilm's Darth Vader & Chewbacca, and our friend Vince's R2-D2. Here's the photos to prove that Michael is really the man behind the mask!

Girl Scout 96th Birthday event at Nixon Library

The Girl Scout Council of Orange County celebrated the 96th birthday of Girl Scouts of the USA and First Lady Pat Nixon at the Nixon Library & Birthplace in Yorba Linda. R2-D2 & the ewoks helped with our daughter's troop fundraising booth, as well as numerous characters from the 501st Legion, including the Jedi Training Academy group from San Diego. The theme of this year's annual event was "Space Station Girl Scouts--Countdown to 100." The ewoks, named "Tiki Tee" and "Tecko" signed a ton of autographs!

Autism Christmas Party, Irvine

R2-D2 & our 2 ewoks joined the 501st Legion to help autistic children and their parents celebrate the holidays at California Integrative Hyperbaric Center in Irvine, which treats autistic children and people with cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, migraines and other conditions. The center uses walk-in tanks that infuse patients with high levels of oxygen – much higher doses than what's available in the air. The event was featured in the OC Register. There were many kid volunteers besides the ewoks. Two miniature 4-year-old stormtroopers joined their dads, there was a little Jawa and an 8-year-old center volunteer dressed as an elf. The kids enjoyed holding puppies that were being auctioned off for the charity.

Our daughter found a little surprise inside her glove as she was dressing… the broken-off fingertip from the mannequin used for the Fanboys movie shoot earlier this month. It was strangely creepy watching it fall out of the glove! But a funny little “souvenir” of the movie shoot.

Michael, R2-D2 and our daughter's ewok costume spent the day on the set of the upcoming film “Fanboys,” produced by Kevin Spacey. It’s a road trip movie about Star Wars fans trying to break into Skywalker Ranch in 1998 to get an advance copy of Star Wars Episode I. The scene filmed Monday was supposed to take place in George Lucas’ prop-filled office. While a change in plans resulted in R2-D2 being removed from the scene, the ewok suit should have a prominent role in the movie, which hits theaters in January. Amy & the kids visited the set briefly and we got a family photo with Kristen Bell, the actress who threatens to light the ewok head on fire with a lighter in a scene. (Our daughter was a bit alarmed to hear that! But the costume survived.) Michael also got a photo earlier in the day with R2-D2 and all the main actors in the film. Kristen Bell is currently starring in the NBC show, Heroes (where she shoots lightening from her fingertips). She’s a blonde, but was wearing a brunette wig for Fanboys. She also starred in Veronica Mars on WB.

Annunciation School Soup Kitchen fundraiser

Westside Children's Center event at Sony Pictures

This event was a fundraiser for Westside Children's Center, which provides family services to disadvantaged, vulnerable, or underserved young children & their families in West Los Angeles. The event was held at the Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City. R2-D2 & the ewoks welcomed guests at the front entry and posed for Polaroid photos which were given to each guest as they entered. Many other Star Wars characters were in attendance, including a group who put on a Jedi Training Academy show for young guests.

We held the fifth annual gathering of R2 Builders at our home. At least 13 droids were present, along with about 30 builders. A painting demo & resin molding demo attracted a lot of interest, as well as a visit from a costumed slave Leia for photo opportunities.

Pacific Symphony John Williams Concert

As part of the Pacific Symphony's summer series at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, the orchestra performed a Salute to John Williams, playing themes from Star Wars, Harry Potter, E.T., Jurassic Park, Superman and others, complete with fireworks. R2-D2 was asked to come be a part of the show. His role was to make a surprise appearance on stage to deliver the "missing Star Wars score" to conductor Richard Kaufman. R2-D2 was greeted with thunderous applause, and was asked to return for a final bow at the close of the show. He also appeared at the VIP After Party backstage. Prior to the show, the kids enjoyed dressing up as ewoks to entertain the crowd as they enjoyed their picnic dinners and made their way to their seats. We enjoyed seeing the beautiful Japanese dancers in their costumes backstage before the show and listening to the fabulous music under the stars. The Orange County Register published a great photo of R2-D2 presenting the score to the conductor in its review.

R2-KT Visit

After the Celebration IV convention in LA, Albin Johnson's R2-KT droid came to visit our R2-D2 and R5-DD droids until KT went to Comic Con in San Diego in July. KT was built in memory of Albin's daughter Katie, who died of brain cancer at age 7 in 2005. Albin takes it to charity events near his home in the Southeastern US to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer. During the visit, Michael did some needed repairs to KT to prepare it for its convention appearances with Lucasfilm & Hasbro. A few years ago as part of a group of R2 Builders, Michael had helped create KT for Albin. Michael assembled the "skins," which are the aluminum outer body coverings. Skywalker Ranch Annual July 4 Picnic

Since Michael was in the Bay Area over 4th of July, he was invited to attend the Lucasfilm Annual Picnic at Skywalker Ranch. He toured the grounds, ate BBQ, played games (his team won first place and received a blue ribbon), and even saw George Lucas & Rick McCallum at the lunch area.

Tour of Rancho Obi Wan

Lucasfilm's Steve Sansweet owns the largest private collection of Star Wars memorabilia in the world, which he houses in a museum he calls Rancho Obi Wan. After Celebration IV, we delivered a photo backdrop set called the "blockade runner," which was built by our friend Michael McMaster for the R2 Builder's room at the convention, to Sansweet's museum in the Bay Area. We rented a U-Haul to transport the large set which had been stored for a month in our garage, and traveled with our families by caravan. We enjoyed a tour of the museum. Art Institute of Calif 30th Anniv of Star Wars

R2-D2 was asked to appear at The Art Institute of California-Orange County Summer Studio Workshop celebrating the 30th anniversary of Lucasfilm’s Star Wars. The four-day, hands-on design, media arts and culinary workshop was an opportunity for high school students to try out a career in the applied arts as a part of a production team, working side-by-side with industry professionals, recreating the elements from the original Star Wars movie.

Legoland Star Wars Weekend

R2-D2 & the ewoks brought a lot of joy to Star Wars fans young & old who attended Legoland's Star Wars weekend. R2 & other 501st members helped kick off the costume contest, where the winning entrant was a young boy wearing an extremely well-made R2-D2 costume that used creative household items, including a flower pot for a dome. The ewoks once again stole the show. Since it was a warm day, they only lasted about 20 minutes in the fur suits before they needed a water break. Park guests kept going to Guest Services and asking when the ewoks would return. So at day's end we decided to take them out one at a time and trade off 20-minute shifts. This helped to avoid a lot of disappointment among the guests. The ewoks had a long line for photos every time they went out. We worked hard to avoid stopping for more photos while walking to and from the photo area in the park's main entrance, since once they stop, they get mobbed!

City Of Hope Pediatric Cancer Survivor's Picnic, LA

Celebration IV Convention, Los Angeles

Michael displayed his 2 droids, R2-D2 and R5-DD in the R2 Builder's Room at the Star Wars Celebration IV convention in LA May 24-28, 2007. About 52 fan-built droids were on display in one of the favorite convention exhibits. There was always a line of people down the hallway waiting for photos with R2-D2 and C3PO in the "blockade runner" photo backdrop, which was built by our R2 Builder friend Michael McMaster. On Sunday, Michael spoke on the Advanced Droid Builder's panel, where he demonstrated converting his R2 into R5. His droid appeared as "DeeDee" at the Pink Five premiere with Director Trey Stokes & Actress Amy Earhart. We got DeeDee's head autographed by Cherise Bangs, the actress who recorded DeeDee's voice. On Monday, R5-DD participated in the R2 Builder's Droid Parade around the lobby. The kids appeared as ewoks on Sunday, and were a big hit in the autograph area.

Free Comic Book Day, Santa Clarita

R2-D2 and his 2 ewok friends appeared at one of five Free Comic Book days throughout Southern California on Saturday, March 5. Brave New World Comics in Newhall handed out lots of free goodies to attendees, while costumed 501st characters entertained & posed for photos. The kids met & got autographs from Kevin Thompson, one of the actual ewok actors from Star Wars Episode VI & Lucasfilm's "Ewok Adventures" movies. They enjoyed threatening the biker scouts & Darth Vader with their sticks!

R2-D2 Meets His Twin

California Science Center Discovery Ball

This was the annual gala fundraiser for the California Science Center in LA. It was a $650 a plate, black tie event. The decor was incredible, creating a real "space cantina" effect. Lots of cool lights, and even lighted champagne glasses. There's a Star Wars exhibit at the children's science museum thru April, and admission is free. We have more pics posted at

Nearly 80 family & friends of the Southern California Garrison gathered for the annual holiday party at our home. We enjoyed food, photos, Rose Parade video, campfire, and a raucous gift exchange during this 12-hour event. Some sneaky stormtroopers even switched the flag in front of the house, to prove our home had officially been invaded!

Vietnamese Cub/Girl Scout meeting, Irvine

R2-D2 & two stormtroopers made a post Rose Parade visit to a large group of Vietnamese Cub Scouts & Girl Scouts in Irvine. Michael spoke about how he built the droid, told the kids about the charity work done by the 501st, and answered various questions. Then the kids lined up for a turn operating the remote control to create R2's sound effects. We shared photos and newspaper clippings from the Rose Parade & other events.

Michael was interviewed by the Yorba Linda Star, which ran a front-page article on his participation in the Rose Parade as a stormtrooper, & R2-D2's appearance on the Lucasfilm float. A shorter version of the article also appeared in the Local section of the Orange County Register. We started getting lots of phone calls & e-mails from friends, family & former co-workers after they saw the article. They told us they were thrilled to tell their friends during the parade, "I know that guy!"

Meeting Star Wars artist Ralph McQuarrie

Ralph McQuarrie is a very talented artist who created the original conceptual drawings of all the main Star Wars scenes & characters, including R2-D2, working side by side with George Lucas. Michael was honored to be invited to meet him in November 2006 at his home in the Bay Area. As he was leaving, a crowd gathered on the sidewalk to see R2. Michael showed some young Star Wars fans a book of McQuarrie's sketches, and explained to him the amazing phenomenon that he helped to create. It was great that McQuarrie got to see first-hand the joy R2-D2 brings to people on a regular basis.

VH1 "Dancing With Star Wars" shoot

Amy took R2-D2 on set for the filming of VH1's "Dancing With Star Wars" spoof for the "Big in '05 Awards" show that aired Dec 4, 2005. Ashley Del Grosso taught stormtroopers to dance & did the tango with Darth Vader, Edyta danced with Chewbacca, & Alex Mazo tried to get R2 to do "something other than 'The Robot.'" Judge Carrie Ann Inaba got choked by Darth Vader when she criticized his dancing style.

R2-D2 joined a variety of costumed characters, including Blade, Ghostbusters, Captain Jack Sparrow, Futurama's Bender, and Speed Racer to raise money for City of Hope at the Anime Expo at Anaheim Convention Center. Convention attendees dress up as their favorite anime characters at this colorful "cosplay" event. We were the Speed Racer family (Speed, Trixie & our "Mini Me's").

MTV Movie Awards shoot with Jimmy Fallon

Jimmy Fallon did a funny spoof of Star Wars for the MTV Movie Awards, using our R2-D2 wearing his "R5 costume." The R5 shot a can of warm beer (from the volcano planet) out the top of his dome, which Fallon, dressed as Anakin, offered to Padme. After the shoot, we converted him back to R2-D2, to the thrill of the crew, who waited in line for at least 15 minutes for photo ops. This shoot took place on the backlot at Universal Studios.

Burger King Convention, Las Vegas

R2-D2 helped open the Burger King convention at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas. He appeared onstage with the CEOs, who were dressed in Star Wars costume, to help promote the theme of the convention. One of them arrived in an X-wing fighter, the other flew in on wires, dressed as a jedi. R2 rolled in with dice attached to his front arm. Burger King was officially licensed to give out Star Wars toys in their kids meals. R2 met Magic Johnson, who was there doing a charity fundraiser on the convention floor.

Episode III Charity Premiere, Westwood

R2-D2 welcomed celebrities & guests to the charity premiere of Star Wars Episode III on the red carpet in Westwood. Paparazzi were in full force, and fans were packed behind barricades across the street. This HUGE Star Wars convention is the place to be for serious Star Wars fans. R2-D2 made the cross-country trip in our friend's SUV, while Michael flew back with friends. The R2 Builders have an exhibit room of their own. Michael had a crazy autograph room adventure with R2-D2 and movie stars Daniel Logan (young Boba Fett) and Bai Ling (a senator edited out of the film). Kenny Baker, the actor who was inside the original R2-D2 in some scenes of the film, was there, as well as numerous original trilogy actors who signed R2's inner panel. The guys even ran into one fighter pilot actor at a local bar and had drinks together.

WalMart Toy Release, Anaheim
